Get to The Point

by Jerry Jaker
Get to The Point
In the Information Age, the challenge has changed. The question used to be, “How do I access information?” Now it is, “How do I keep from drowning in the stuff?”. One way is to advocate for the world of communicators to get to the point.

Being brief and concise with the written word is tough. Benjamin Franklin once began a twenty page letter to a colleague with the apology that he “didn’t have time to write a short letter”.

The world famous Pythagorean theorem is 24 words. The Ten Commandments -- 179 words. Gettysburg Address -- 286 words. Declaration of Independence -- 1300 words. Federal regulations on the sale of cabbage -- 26,911 words.

In a world when one of our most precious resources is time, an economy of words and clarity of focus is both appreciated and respected. Good to keep in mind as we communicate our messages.
