People of Action

by Jerry Jaker
People of Action

One of my bigger frustrations is, people and groups who spend an overly proportional amount of time planning, and not enough time doing. I certainly don't want us to be imprudent or haphazard in what we do, but we DO at some point need to DO!!

There are many groups and organizations who if they were a football team would be repeatedly penalized for too much time in the huddle. Sometimes perfection can become the enemy of good progress.

Will Rogers once said that "Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there!".

Dan Stoltz, a friend of mine likes to say, "The only constant is change", and that is for sure.

Groups and organizations that make things happen and get things done are by and large, people of action. They get going when they need to get going, and are not afraid to make a mistake. And they own the consequences of their actions.

So, the next time it feels like your group is spinning its wheels and that the primary accomplishment of "The Committee" was to determine the next time to meet, push the envelope and take action. We don't need slower-than molasses-eternal plodders any more than we need a Department of Redundancy Department.   There are more times than not when there is an urgency to act in a situation more than a panic.

So Good People of Action, we salute you!
