Watch Your Language

Watch Your Language

Well, maybe less language and more acronyms, especially when selecting a website address.

I recently became involved in the Northstar Problem Gambling Alliance Board and in doing so, participated in discussion about the National Program Gambling Association, or npga.org.

I expected to pull up this national gambling entity, and got instead the National Propane Gas Association, as well as the Northern Pulse Growers Association (a group of Montana and North Dakota farm producers organized to advocate for something related to growing crops).

Next, I tried npga.com and instead landed on the site of the National Pygmy Goat Association, as I heard tell at the Board meeting that I might. Nothing against pygmy goats, but time is a resource.

(There are membership dues, and many unendorsed pygmy goat clubs in Alaska, Idaho and California -- for some reason they apparently don't have the official blessing of the NPGA. Didn't stop to find out why...).

All is to say, registering your website address seems a pretty important step in getting clear in cyberspace.

www.miph.org is where you can find us. Can also find the site Making It Possible to end Homelessness, which is nice, but not us.

So choose your address carefully, and watch your language regularly.

What are your website address stories?
