Understanding Contemporary Hmong Culture, Traditions and Spirituality for Better Health
From the mountains of Laos to the communities of Minnesota, what social
conditions have changed which impact the health of the Hmong American
community today?
Conference Goal - To increase knowledge and effectiveness of
health, human service, and education professionals to serve Minnesota’s
Hmong community.

Objectives
• To increase understanding of how Hmong culture, traditions and
spirituality influence health decisions and behaviors
• To learn how Hmong traditions have adapted in response to the
contemporary environment
• To partner with the Hmong community in taking action steps informed by community-led initiatives to strengthen health
• To identify key characteristics needed by the Hmong community for culturally-effective services
• To connect government institutions at state and local levels to
culturally-based resources to improve effectiveness in serving the Hmong community
Who Should Attend - Health, human service and education
professionals who work with Hmong families and communities, including
those who work to help ensure community access to health care,
nutrition, physical activity and end of life resources.
Registration Fee - $50 business, $35 non-profit and government, $10
student. Fee is non-refundable and includes: authentic Hmong lunch
buffet, conference materials, experiential learning opportunity, and
post-conference workgroup
