Community Group Mailings
As part of the Problem Gambling Awareness Week, a packet of materials was sent to different sectors of the community to assist in increasing awareness of problem gambling. Groups that received the mailings included:
- Chemical Dependency Programs
- County Mental Health Agencies
- County Social Service Agencies
- Extension Service Professionals
- Faith Community
- Gambling Treatment Professionals
- Native American Mental Health Professionals
- Public Health Nurses
- Senior Centers
- Tribal Chemical Dependency Professionals
All of the groups received the following items:
- A cover letter developed specifically for each group describing the Awareness Week and the packet of materials.
- Information Sheet: The Face of Recovery--outlining the history of gambling in Minnesota, gambling prevalence, dollars spent and includes a description of problem gambling and the process of recovery. (see page 4)
- Treatment Resources Fact Sheet--detailing resources available for gambling treatment in Minnesota.
- Gambling: Choices and Guidelines booklet
- Gambling Problems Resource Center Materials Order Form
Additional materials were tailored to the specific needs of each group:
- Two-Question Screen Laminated Card--a two question screening tool for assessing gambling problems and instructions for using the screen as well as where to go if further assessment is needed. (see below)
- Bar/Slot Machine Chemical Dependency Poster--Problem drinkers are often in a position to become problem gamblers.
- Family Poster--They've got a gambling problem. He should be home any minute now. (see page 1)
- Faith Community Bulletin Insert--includes a brief description of problem gambling in Minnesota on one side and the other shows the family poster. (see page 3)
- Faith Community Adult Forum Discussion Guide--developed to be used in a variety of settings including adult education and adult forums within the faith community to provide an opportunity for participants to examine issues related to problem gambling.
- Faith Community Sermon Resource--for faith community leaders.
- Senior Table Tent--shows a different graphic and question on each side and was designed to be placed out during congregate dining or other similar functions in the hope of spurring discussions about problem gambling. (see page 2)
- Senior Brochure--outlines the risks associated with seniors gambling.
- Senior and Slot Machine Poster--Do you really want to spend your golden years hooked up to a machine?
