Protecting the World Around Us

Included in MIPH’s environmental safety portfolio are the following items:

• Staff contributed to the development of the Pesticides and Human Health risk prevention community outreach and social marketing initiative for residents in rural Red River Valley, Minnesota and North Dakota. • We created WhataWaste. This K-12 reduce-reuse-recycle waste management education curriculum for schools and families was the first State-funded and utilized outcome-based education curriculum in environmental health

• Staff developed the Lessons in Lead childhood lead poisoning prevention curriculum used throughout the nation. It was featured on the cover the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) resources magazine.

• We produced trilingual education materials for pre-schoolers and their families on recycling practices.

• MIPH also assesses physical school environments for engineering safety, threat assessment services, and best practice in preventing harm and reducing risk on school grounds and facilities.

• MIPH’s team of evaluators worked with the American Lung Association of Minnesota to evaluate the effectiveness of the Controlling Asthma in American Cities project.
